Below here are a series of my ceramics projects from Intermediate
Coil pot: Medium, Studio clay, under glaze, glaze
For my project I chose Jamaican pottery. I myself am Jamaican, so I decided to learn about the pottery there and attempt to portray their inspiration in my pot. My color choice stuck around a beach theme, since Jamaica is a tropical island. Colors like a light blue, and sand colors. I did a rounded out shape. For my stamp I created multiple palm trees to relate to the tropical island.
Constructed functional cup: Medium, studio clay, under glaze, glaze (made on potters wheel).
Mask: Medium, Studio clay, paint, glaze Society as a whole allows people to wear our masks in order to hide our feelings and flaws. These things should not be hidden because in the end wearing a mask for so long can be extremely harmful. Society makes it seem as if wearing a mask benefits you and or others around you. Feeling trapped and tamed can result from stress which can be caused by a variety of things. Things such as school, homework, family issues, friends, body image, expectations, a big event etc. My mask is my normal face but behind the smile reveals the feeling of being conquered and suppressed. In the creation of my mask I thought about how I could create a visual representation of someone feeling weighed down or stressed. My smile/mouth is covered by the silver “chains” that are symbolized as a restraint.
